“Water is fundamental for life and health

What is it about water that makes us spend our
holidays beside it, swim in it, relax and bathe in
it, and even experience therapies with it? Are we
naturally drawn to water perhaps because water
makes up approximately 75% of our bodies?
Water is essential for living and without it we could
die in a few days. We don’t drink enough water
nowadays and we are not always aware we are
dehydrated. In fact, feeling “thirsty”, is probably the
last sensation of dehydration the body experiences.
Before that, we sometimes experience lethargy, lack
of concentration, and are more vulnerable to stress
so, one of the easiest ways of giving yourself more
energy is to increase your consumption of water.
So how much water should we drink?
Everyone should drink about 8 to 10 glasses of water per day depending on
your weight.
Try calculating your weight in pounds. Remember, 10 stones equal 140 lbs.
Then divide your weight by 2 and multiply the result by 30 the approximate
number of millilitres in a fluid ounce.
In this example this equals 2.1 litres. The tall bottles of water that we
sometimes buy from the supermarket usually
contain about 1.5 litres so that gives you an idea of
the daily amount you actually need.
You cannot go from zero water (I’m not talking
about teas, coffees or fruit juices) to 1.5 litres of
water all in a day. You should look at the different
fluids you drink in a day. Gradually start substituting
water for coffees, juices and fizzy drinks. Diet drinks
are not recommended since they contain impurities
the body has to work hard to eliminate.
